Turkey and the Middle East offers an unforgettable 14 day study abroad experience. The objective of the program is to examine Turkey’s increasingly central role in the new Middle East emerging in the aftermath of the revolts against dictatorships in the region. A secondary and related objective is to visit one of the politically most important and historically richest countries in the Middle East. Students will travel to three cities in Turkey: Istanbul - the largest city and commercial hub, Ankara - the capital, and Gaziantep- a historical midsized city in Southwest Turkey. In Istanbul we will visit Hagia Sofia, Hipodrome, Blue mosque, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazzar, Spice Bazzar, a number of newspapers. In Gaziantep we will visit, Gaziantep Castle, Gaziantep Museum and go on a day trip to the city of Urfa. In Ankara, students will see, Turkish Parliament, Ataturk’s Mausoleum, Anatolian Civilizations Museum. In all three places we will participate in lecture, discussion and seminars with Turkish Academic, intellectuals and think tanks.

Participants will stay in a comfortable, double-occupancy boutique hotel in the old city in Istanbul and near the facilities of the host university in the other cities
Students with documented disabilities who may need accommodations during their study abroad experience should discuss these needs with the Program Director and the Office of Disability Services at the time of application.
The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students who meet all academic requirements of the Georgia State University College of Arts and Sciences. Program size is limited and participation is contingent upon acceptance by the Program Director.
CREDITS AND COURSES
Participants who successfully complete the program will receive 3 semester hours of course credit at Georgia State University. Undergraduate students should register for POLS4920 or MES 4590. Students from other institutions should follow their institution’s regulations concerning transfer credits.
Program cost may vary at any time according to currency fluctuations and changing travel arrangements.
The program cost is tentatively set at $2,600.00, PLUS regular Georgia State University tuition and fees. Non-resident/out-of-state students will pay in-state tuition plus a $250 fee in addition to the program cost.

Georgia State University students are eligible to apply for the IEF Study Abroad Scholarship/Georgia State University Foundation Scholarship and may be eligible to apply for the Global Experience Scholarship.
